Abstract
In the last decade, the development of computation has led to a new kind of protection systems: the advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Since the early ages of the automotive industry, motor companies have continuously pursued new technologies to improve the passengers’ safety. With the development of electronics, new technologies such as the electronic stability control (ESC) or the advanced brake warning have provided more protection using signal processing. However, ADAS go one step further since they are aimed at predicting and avoiding accidents by using computer vision techniques. This chapter provides an overview of vision-based ADAS technologies, covering key applications such as pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, and traffic sign recognition.
